In honor of News Engagement day, Carter Chapley, Trenton Almgren-Davis and myself put together a detailed Spotify Playlist that goes with the current news stories in the greater Saint Louis Area. For National News Engagement Day our Multiplatform Journalism class got put into groups and fixed together their own list of stories and Spotify playlists. Here are our top eight stories:
1) In a major win for Boeing St. Louis, the United States Department of Defence has awarded the St. Louis County manufacturing wing was awarded the 9.2 billion dollar military defence contract to build the Air Forces new training jet. The contract is expected to last through 2034 and bring in 14,000 new jobs to the area.

2.) A St. Louis County police officer has left the department amid allegations of racist and sexist comments made towards her through the chain of command. Nikki Brown says she didn’t plan of being a civil rights activist, but needed to, to avoid others in her position down from facing it. It is needless to say there will be changes made in the department now.

3.) A student at SIU who was accused of belonging to a white supremacist, neo-nazi group is no longer enrolled at the institution. The student was accused of making derogatory comments against Black, Homosexual, and Jewish student, however little else is know about the students dismissal due to privacy laws.

4.) The mother of a Ladue High School student is filing a federal lawsuit against the High School for excluding her son from participating in Varsity soccer. The player did not make the varsity team and due to a school policy, because of his Junior status could not participate with the JV squad. The lawsuit alleges that policy does not exist for the women’s team and is therefore discrimination on the basis of sex. The lawsuit will be heard this week to see if there is enough evidence to go to trial.

5.) The St. Ann police pursued a fleeing car on Monday, Oct. 1. The pursuit resulted in a flip and crash at the intersection at St. Louis Avenue. Three people were injured from the collision.

6.) The St. Louis Cardinals season has come to an unfortunate early ending. After not being able to win the final series of the season against the Chicago Cubs, the Cardinals will not be playing october baseball for the third consecutive season. The end of the season brings many questions to the future of the franchise, including the future of long time Cardinals star Adam Wainwright.

7.) Couple from Saint Louis will be featured on a full episode of House Hunters. The show airs at 9pm on Monday night, where they will be looking for a new home in Smithfield, Virginia. After going through a plethora of interviews to be on the show in 2017, they were finally taken in by the show to help them find a house to renovate into something bigger and better.
